The Peached Tortilla (Fork it over, Austin! - Part 16)

It's hard to say for sure, because I ate a lot of tacos while in Austin, but I think this was my favorite - the BBQ brisket taco from The Peached Tortilla (dry-rubbed brisket, creamy apple slaw, and smoky roasted peach BBQ sauce).

The truck was parked at the Foodspotting SXSW Street Food Fest. The sun came out just in time for us to swing by for lunch. Apparently, champion eater Kobayashi was also at the fest, but I didn't see him. Later in the week, he set a new grilled cheese record.

I was sad that I only got one of these tacos - such juicy beef, such a soft tortilla - but I was balancing a box of two dozen hamentashen on one arm and a heavy camera on the other, and I didn't feel like hopping back in line. The banh mi taco (Vietnamese-braised pork belly, pickled daikon and carrot salad, sriracha mayo, cilantro) also received high marks from one of my colleagues.

I wish I had tried more items from the truck, and not just the tacos. (How did I miss the Maker's & Coke cake pops?) This truck has a seemingly rabid legion of fans, and an Austin food blogger who recently moved to Boston even mentioned to us that they'll actually be catering her wedding.
